About us

Mechanical Engineering is one of the broadest and the most versatile engineering profession finding its application in all fields of technology. The boost in the manufacturing sector has raised the demand for Mechanical Engineers exponentially. The uniqueness of the discipline incorporates skills and expertise in the areas of Design, Manufacturing, Mechanics and Thermal sciences besides inter-disciplinary subjects that are essential to most sectors of industry. The educational objective of ME@GAT with intake of 120 students is to prepare students to successfully establish themselves in professional careers, innovate and exercise leadership in their positions to the benefit of society. Department is a recognized Research Centre by VTU and offers MSc Engg (by Research) & Ph. D programs besides M. Tech program in Thermal Engineering. The department is equipped with state of the art facilities in all the class rooms & laboratories. Faculty team comprises of professionals from both academics & industry and have published over 60 papers in reputed International and National journals in the last three years.

 

Department organizes guest lectures by industry experts, workshops, exhibitions, seminars & conferences and industry visits periodically to benefit the students on current trends in the industry. The department conducts tutorial classes and special classes to aid students besides providing training in thrust areas. Students of ME@GAT are encouraged to enhance their overall learning experience by being professional club members such as SAE, ISHRAE and participating in various science and technology fairs and design competitions. Students gain computer aided design experience with emphasis on synthesis, applications and problem solving. Hands-on experience with various product design process is an integral part of the coursework.

A very warm welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Global Academy of Technology. It is a known fact that Mechanical Engineering finds application in all fields of technology and it is one of the core branches of engineering which has remained always in demand and will continue to be in the future.. We are very happy that Global Academy of Technology has been accredited “A” grade by NAAC.   I am also happy to place on records that our M.Tech students have secured VTU 1st and 2nd Ranks .

 

Our student teams Green Grenades and Go Kart have participated in racing competitions, won prizes  and have brought laurels to our department and also to the college. Global Academy of Technology has signed MOU with M/S Toyota Kirloskar Motors Pvt Ltd to set up Center of Excellence in Automotive Engineering in our department. I am sure students will benefit from centre through enhanced projects.

About ME Staff

Department Faculty includes 5 doctorates and majority of the faculty members are pursuing doctoral research in different universities. Faculty members have published over 60 papers in International/National Journals & Conferences in the last three years and are encouraged to attend FDP programs, Conferences and seminars to update their knowledge in current technologies. Department conducts student training programs & workshops in advanced technology areas such as CAD/CAE/CFD, Robotics to bridge the curriculum gap.  Our staff have immensely contributed  in Cirruculam development and have authored books to help the academic community.

    • Nikhil M.K., Mr. Prashanth R, Mr. Praveen Bhat P and Mr. Vishwas M, students of 8th semester secured second prize at the project exhibition- YANTRIX 2018 held at City Engineering College, Bengaluru for their project titled “Design of Cylindrical Pressure Vessels with Hemispherical End Closures”.

    • Shravan Kumar D K and Shashank J R presented a paper titled “A study on dual clutch system” in “YANTHRAJNAAN-2016”, a state level paper presentation competition and have won the second place in the contest, they were guided by Mr. Sharath S (Assistant Professor).
    • Nehal V Naik and Rakshit K S presented a paper titled “a study on methods of damping in various sports equipment”, in “YANTHRAJNAAN-2016”, a state level paper presentation competition and have won the second place in the contest, they were guided by Assistant Professor Mr. Amith D Gangadhar.
    • Team Green Grenades of mechanical department secured fourth place in the Go-Karting event held at Sri krishna College of Engineering, Coimbatore in August 2016. Team Secured first place in best design category and runners-up in endurance category.
    • Sri Vishnu Bharadwaj and Suhas. S of 3rd semester mechanical engineering have secured second prize in “My dream idea contest” event organized by MSME, government of India in in 2016 and are eligible for funding upto eight lakh rupees from the Indian Government.
    • A C S Pavan, Udayashankar G, Sumanth Koushik B M, Abhiram V, Nikhil V, Bharath M Gulaganji were the finalists of VTU south zone basketball tournament held at GAT in sept. 2016.
    • Unnath U K, Mithundeep B M, Sinchin S Y, Prajwal N S, Shamanth M , Yashvanth M, jnanesh B S, Bharath M Gulaganji were the finalists of VTU Inter zone net ball tournament in the year 2015 and 2016.
    • Deepak and Raju Ghanti, participated in VTU Bangalore south zone Kho-Kho Tournament in march 2015 and the team emerged as champions.
    • C Prakash Rao, Asst. Prof. and Mr. D. V. Ravikumar Assoc. Prof. received the best paper award in the national conference on ITATME at Mysore in 2015.
    • Karthik N was awarded as the best shooter in the VTU netball tournament in sept. 2014.
    • Karthik N. and Unnath participated in All India Inter University Netball Tournament in sept 2014.
    • 25 SAE students of ME secured 72nd position in the racing completion held at Chennai in 2014

Infrastructure

Mechanical engineering department has excellent multimedia classrooms and all the laboratories in the department are equipped with state of the art facilities and ably supported by the trained technical staff and experienced faculty members.  The students are encouraged to take up mini projects in all the laboratories during the semester and vacation time. The laboratories include Machine shop, Foundry & Forging Lab, Heat Transfer Lab, Design Lab, Materials Testing Lab, Energy conversion Engineering Lab, Fluid Machinery Lab, Basic Workshop, Metrology & Measurement  Lab, CAD & CAM/Automation Lab

The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE), student chapter was installed at Global Academy of Technology on August 27, 2016. Over 120 students registered for the student chapter.

The purpose of an ISHRAE student chapter is to get more students interested, concerned, and involved in pursuing a career in the field of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration. ISHRAE student chapter activities are administered by students as elected officers which provide students with an experience that simulates running a business or an organization. By networking with local ISHRAE Chapter, one will have an opportunity to meet practicing engineers in the HVAC industry

saeSAE student chapter

SAE is an international consortium of students and professionals which plays a major role in setting operational and safety standards for automobile, aerospace and various other industries. The Indian wing of SAE is called SAE INDIA. It is most well-known among students for organizing the BAJA and SUPRA events. SAE Student Chapter was initiated in the year 2011. Over 240 students have registered as a student member.

AGIRA RACING is the first team from Global Academy of Technology to participate in SUPRA SAEINDIA competition consisting of students from GAT’s highly successful and driven Mechanical Department which is guided by Associate Prof. Gurunagendra G R, FRANCIS and supported by HOD and Principal. The team AGIRA RACING consists of 25 handpicked students who are passionate and strive hard to build the car.

Achievements

  • In 2015, the SUPRA SAEINDIA Virtual was conducted at VELTECH University, Chennai and saw a total of 167 participating teams with over 700 students from various IIT’s, NIT’s and universities going head-to-head in the virtual round. Team AGIRA RACING from Global Academy of Technology is one of the few colleges to secure a place in the virtual rounds. AGIRA RACING is one of the 4 teams from Karnataka that got through the virtual.
  • The 2016 SUPRA SAE INDIA event took place in ‘The Buddh International Circuit’ at Greater Noida. The team cleared all the static rounds such as design presentation, cost presentation and business presentation and was able to secure 73rd place amidst stiff competition from 166 teams.

GREEN GRENADES is Global Academy of Technology’s belligerent student go-kart team. The team has housed the elite mechanical engineering students to conceive, design and develop a top notch go-kart vehicle. The team is destined to be known for its innovation and confidence and active involvement in constantly improving itself with an perennial thirst to WIN!
GREEN GRENADES is the first team from GAT to participate in ISIE-INDIAN-KARTING event held by ISIE consisting of students from GAT’s highly successful and driven Mechanical Department which is guided by faculty advisor Mr. Amith D.Gangadhar supported by Principal & HOD.

Achievements

  • Team Green Grenades bagged Best Design Award in Go-Karting event held in Buddh International Circuit, Noida, in January 2018.
  • Team Green Grenades secured 4th place in the Go-Karting event held in Bhopal in September 2017. Team Secured first place in both Business report category and Kart manufacturing and 2nd place in innovation.
  • In 2017 GAT Green Grenades team secured overall 2nd place and grabbed best cost report and best Autocross and best built quality in the Siegers Championship held in Surampalem and also won a cash prize of Rs. 55,000/-.
  • In 2016 the Go-Kart event was held at Srikrishna College of Engineering, Coimbatore. GAT Green Grenades team secured overall 4th Place and also stood First in Best Design category and Runners-up position in Endurance category with a cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-.

rudraRUDRA

RUDRA is a team of engineering students and has its roots from the Team Green Grenades aiming to build a Solar Car. The team was formed during November 2016 and participated in ESVC- 2017(Electric Solar Vehicle Championship) between 27th to 29th March 2017 at Sri Vishnu College of Engineering, Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

Our Mechanical Engineering graduates will be able to:
PSO1:    Specify, design, and analyse machine elements using CAD/CAE software
PSO2:    Evaluate thermal performance of Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning systems, Electronic systems, Solar Roof Top Photo-Voltaic systems using experimental approach or /and CFD tools and design these systems for better performance
PSO3:    Develop composite materials, manufacturing process and products in an efficient, safe and cost effective manner
