Scholarship of Knowledge

Acquire in-depth knowledge of specific discipline or professional area, including Wider and global perspective, with an ability to discriminate, evaluate, analyze and synthesize existing and new knowledge, and integration of the same for enhancement of knowledge.

Critical Thinking

Analyze complex engineering problems critically, apply independent judgement for synthesizing information to make intellectual and/or creative advances for conducting Research in a wider theoretical, practical and policy context.

Problem Solving

Usage of modern tools

About the M.Tech Program

All the M. Tech programmes are aimed at training manpower with sound theoretical & experimental knowledge in frontier areas of research in engineering, management, sciences and interdisciplinary subjects and best management practices. The emphasis is on understanding the scientific basis and engineering principles involved in solving problems of practical importance in the relevant field using multidisciplinary approach. An important component of these programmes is to inculcate the habit of independent thinking and initiative by the candidates in planning and executionof the research work. These programmes seek to train manpower of the highest quality to cater to the needs of industry, R & D organizations and educational institutions. Candidates who possess the requisite qualifications are eligible for admission to postgraduate programmes in the respective departments of the Institute leading to M.Tech degree.

  • M.Tech Thermal Engineering @ME
  • The course focuses on the theory (analytical and numerical) and practice of broad range of industrially relevant topics in the field of Engineering Thermodynamics, Heat transfer and Fluid dynamics. The course is designed specifically to meet the needs of modern thermal engineer in industry, research and educational establishments and to prepare students in specialized areas to broaden their career prospects in design, research and development. Program is introduced considering the career Prospects in Power sector and allied industries, HVAC, Renewable Energy, Process Industries and other industries including Automotive & Aerospace where cooling solutions are important. The opportunities for Thermal Power Engineering post graduates are predominantly in Power Plants design, Manufacturing & Installation and similar opportunities in the Power Plant ancillary and auxiliary systems. In addition to these, they are in great demand in Industries related to Generic Thermal systems, Environmental & Pollution control, and Renewable Energy systems. Further, there is tremendous scope for using Computational Fluid Dynamics approach to solve thermal design problems involving fluid flow and heat transfer in almost all the industries. Thermal engineering has a wide scope of employment in India as well as abroad. Engineers are employed in the areas of research, development, design and application.

  • M.Tech Structural Engineering @Civil
  • Structural engineering is a challenging field of study, but one with great rewards. It carries with it the satisfaction of doing being able to create something which makes the difference in society and individual lives. Structural engineers play a key part in design and construction team at every stage of a structure realization. as there is a huge demand of specialized Civil Engineers in India. The field is expected to grow further, considering the rising demand for advanced infrastructure creation. Civil Engineers have equal opportunities in both private and public sector. It is natural; the demand for specialized professionals will keep increasing every year. Hence, a candidate’s future is bright in this field. Structural engineers often specialize in particular areas, such as engineering of bridges, buildings, pipelines, industrial structures or special mechanical structures such as vehicles, ships or aircraft. Structural engineers perform one of the most important roles in the construction industry. Without their skills and technical knowledge the structure we built will not be able to withstand weight, pressure and seismic activity. Structural Engineers also play a role in designing machinery where structural integration of the item is a matter of safety e.g. aircraft, spacecraft. Structural engineers can find employment in a wide variety of venues, particularly firms specializing in architectural, engineering, construction and related services, as well as state and local governments. Many structural engineers hold supervisory or administrative positions. Another option is to work as a self-employed contract engineer or as consultants. Yet others who don’t like site work can opt for research or teaching positions in universities.

  • M.Tech Computer Science and Engineering @CSE
  • Master of Technology in Computer Science program is designed to provide a balanced mixture of theoretical and professional training in Computer Science so that the students, on successful completion of the course, may take up either (a) a professional career in the technology of software for computer systems or specialized application areas, or (b) an academic career for further study and research in the fundamental and applied aspects of Computer Science and related disciplines. This job title can refer to individuals working as computer hardware engineers, computer software applications engineers, or computer systems engineers. In general, they design elements that help computers operate. They may develop computer chips, create software programs that help computer systems run, or design software applications. In this era of digitization the country needs large number of professionally trained graduates. The job prospects are bright in other countries too as the applied software’s are being used in everyday life in allied applications.

  • M.Tech Digital Electronics and Communication @ECE
  • This course on Digital Electronics and Communication aims at providing in-depth knowledge to students of Electronics and Telecommunication background in various subject of present day interest. It presents an in depth knowledge to the students about the advances in communication and an insight to the modern day digital technology. This course enriches the student with the different techniques in digital modulation, signal processing, equalization techniques, different types of channels and channel coding techniques.  Digital Electronics and Communication open up great career prospects for the students. The students after completion of the degree can avail job opportunities in manufacturing industries and service organizations such as broadcasting, consulting, data communication, entertainment, research and development; and system support. The candidates can also work in modern multimedia service firms that are involved in real-time transfer of information through video conferencing and internet broadcasting..

About MBA Program

The Master of Business Management (MBA) offered at the Department of management Studies is a 2 year PG Program which aims at making a candidate proficient in all the subjects of management with specialization in Human Resources(HR) or Finance or Marketing. It is very important for student to consider their career goals and professional development before choosing a specialization.

Finance

MBA in finance focuses on courses like costing, budgeting, International finance, Capital Management etc. After going through these courses one becomes specialized in Financial Management thus enabling one to work in finance department of any organization. If you want to persue MBA in finance then you must be a graduate in any stream and must have liking for maths and statistics.

Marketing

MBA Marketing is very dynamic and competitive in todays world and a key driver of any companies success. MBA in marketing focuses on consumer behavior, market, advertising and many other important fields. One needs to have excellent communication skills, resource mobilization skills and an undying zeal to excel in marketing. If you want to persue MBA in Marketing then you must be willing to travel.

Human Resources (HR)

MBA in HR Management is for those wanting to develop a management career in HR and strategic planning and be part of the recruitment team. This course also includes diversity, mergers and acquisitions, labor markets and emerging economics and international leadership. To be as successful MBA graduate with HR specialization, one must be good in communication skills, have a charismatic personality, and confident in oneself.

About MSc and PhD Research Program

For candidates who would like pursue research in specific areas are encouraged to register for MSc /PhD program with thesis option. By studying a PhD / MSc by Research one will be leading pivotal change that underpins business interests and creates a tangible impact on society. A PhD degree is a necessary experience / training for anyone wishing to start an academic career. During PhD course, one will gain the essential scientific skills and research methods in addition to improved my interpersonal ability.

M. Tech

M.Tech Eligibility Requirement: Candidates with valid GATE score and PGCET rank are eligible to seek admission under Government Quota. Only GATE score is usually valid for two years and must have obtained minimum prescribed score.

Note: Candidates with valid GATE scores need not appear for Karnataka PGCET and will be given preference over the others. For receiving GATE Scholarship, a candidate must have a valid GATE Score.

Qualification requirement: A candidate who has passed prescribed qualifying examination or equivalent examination and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks taken together in all the subjects in all the years is eligible for admission to M. Tech program. 45% of marks in case of SC, ST and Category-I candidates.

Other Requirement: The candidate should have studied and passed in one or more Government or Government recognized educational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN academic years commencing from 1st standard to qualifying examination either continuously or in broken period as on 1st July of the year in which the Entrance Test is held in a Government recognized institutions located in Karnataka State. In case of the candidate who had taken more than one year to pass a class or standard, the years of academic study is counted as one year only.

Seat Allotment by KEA: In the case of M.Tech. (Full Time) courses, first seat will be allotted to VALID GATE SCORE candidates irrespective of the Karnataka or non-Karnataka. However, reservation is applicable only to those who become eligible as Karnataka candidates and the same is not applicable to Non-Karnataka GATE rank holders. Non-Karnataka GATE rank holders will be considered under Open / General Category.
MBA.

For MBA Eligibility Requirement: Candidate who has passed Recognized Bachelor’s Degree (like BBA, B.Com, BA, BSc etc..) of minimum of 3 years duration examination or equivalent examination or higher Degree like B.E., M.Tech, ME etc..and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks taken together in all the subjects including languages in all the years of the Degree Examination is eligible for admission to MBA courses. (45% of marks in Q. E. in case of SC, ST and Category-I of Karnataka candidates). Must have a valid PGCET score/rank.

Eligibility Clause under Government Quota:The candidate should have studied and passed in one or more Government or Government recognized educational institutions located in the State of Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN academic years commencing from 1st standard to Qualifying Examination either continuously or in broken period as on 1st July of the year in which the Entrance Test is held and must have appeared and passed either SSLC / 10th standard or 2nd PUC / 12th standard examination in a Government recognized institutions located in Karnataka State or that either of the parents should have studied in Government recognized institutions in Karnataka for a minimum period of SEVEN years. In case of the candidate who had taken more than one year to pass a class or standard, the years of academic study is counted as one year only.

Important Note:All the admissions and undergraduate Degrees to claim eligibility for admission to any of the PG courses is subject to approval of the Government / VTU / other respective University.

About PGCET: The Karnataka Post Graduate Common Entrance Test (PGCET) is being conducted for the purpose of determining the eligibility / merit, for admission of Karnataka and non-Karnataka candidates to the First year or First semester of full time and part time courses in MBA, MCA, M.E. / M.Tech / M.Arch in Government / University / Private Aided / Private Un-Aided professional educational institutions in the state of Karnataka for the respective academic year.

MSc(Engg)

Eligibility Criteria: Admission to the M.Sc.(Engg) by Research is open to candidates who have passed B.E./B.Tech. Examination of VTU or B.E./B.Tech. of any other recognized University, recognized by this University as equivalent thereto and have passed the prescribed qualifying examination with not less than 60% of the marks in the aggregate, in the examinations of the semesters considered for the declaration of class/grade. However, a relaxation to the extent of 10% shall be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST and any other category as notified by Government of Karnataka from time to time.

Registration: The candidate shall submit his/her application for registration to the University in the prescribed form along with other necessary documents viz., degree certificate, marks cards of all examinations, employers’ certificate and no objection certificate from the employer, consent of the Guide, through the Head of the Institution where the candidate intends to do research.

PhD(Engg)

Eligibility Criteria: Admission to the PhD.(Engg) by Research is open to candidates who possess a Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology of VTU or any other University, recognized by VTU or any other Degree which is equivalent to the Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology. However, a candidate possessing Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering subject and working in National Laboratories, R&D Laboratories attached to Industries or such other Research Institutions or Industries can directly seek registration for Ph.D. programs if he / she has published a work of outstanding merit or a work recognized for Patent rights.

A Candidate shall have obtained minimum of 60% or equivalent Grade in either at Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree examinations as considered for the declaration of Class/Grade by the concerned University. However, a relaxation to the extent of 10% shall be allowed for

a)  Candidates belonging to SC/ST and any other category as notified by the Government of Karnataka from time to time.

b)  Candidates with a minimum of five years experience either in teaching or research, subject to the provisions of these Regulations.

In addition to the above, the candidate shall have qualified in the University Level Research Aptitude test (ULRAT), the results of which shall be valid for a period two years.

Registration: The candidate shall submit his/her application for registration to the University in the prescribed form along with other necessary documents viz., degree certificate, marks cards of all examinations, employers’ certificate and no objection certificate from the employer, consent of the Guide, through the Head of the Institution where the candidate intends to do research.
